WWE Evolve, 10/8/25
Evolve is having their first-ever special on the 15th (on Tubi! Free to watch, unless you count the precious, irreplaceable minutes of your life spent watching ads!), so let’s get caught up on the latest episode before the big show!
We opened with soon-to-be-former GM Stevie Turner announcing that last week’s sneak attack against Keanu Carver rendered him unable to contend for the Men’s Championship against Jackson Turner but that she would find a “suitable replacement.”
To the ring, where backstage reporter Chuey Martinez was tasked with hyping up the typically sedate Evolve crowd. He brought out Kendal Grey and Kali Armstrong for a “face to face,” though, given the respective statures of the competitors, a “face to neck” would have been more accurate. Both competitors talked trash, reminisced about their college sports days (?) and asserted that they would take the title at the first ever Evolve special, Succession.
Another promo, with Tate Wilder asserting he deserves a spot at Succession before Brooks Jensen attacked him, threw him to the ground, and rained punches down on him.
Ten minutes into the show, we finally got some wrestling! It’s Gal emerged with some hardware around his neck--a couple of medals, or, more likely, plastics. He was attired in turquoise and pink Miami chic and had the words “Mint Condition” written across his butt. Dante Chen emerged in a hooded costume that made him look like a character from Mortal Combat, but we don’t know which one because we were bad at that game and even Christopher Lambert’s fantastic wig couldn’t get us to watch the movie more than once.
It’s Gal dominated early, doing some pushups on the prone Chen before Chen took control of the match, ultimately dispatching It’s Gal with his signature move, “The Chentle Touch.” The name could use some workshopping, but there’s no arguing with the results. And it was satisfying to see an arrogant loudmouth with an orange spray tan humbled!
More promos, as Chuey interviewed The High Ryze, Tyrkek Igwe and Tyson Dupont, who asserted that they would win their match this evening and gave big ups to their mentor Wes Lee.
Then backstage to The Vanity Project, where Jackson Drake and his merry band of toadies wondered who might contend for the Men’s Championship. Bryce Donovan didn’t say much, though.
Marcus Mathers and Aaron Rourke emerged to take on The High Ryze, The High Ryze, with the size and strength advantage, dominated early, but Rourke and Mathers were able to come back with some impressive high-flying moves (and were those garter belt straps hanging from Rourke’s trunks? If so, bring on the fishnets, we say!). But like Icarus, Rourke and Mathers flew too high, and Rourke got slammed into the metaphorical Aegean we call The Mat as The High Ryze got the pin and the win.
Another promo as Jax Presley and Harley Riggins went into Stevie Turner’s office to demand a rematch against Adrenaline Drip, hoping to avenge their defeat from last week, which they insisted was a fluke. Stevie Turner insisted she saw through Presley and Riggins’ manipulations, then gave them exactly what they wanted. That’ll teach ‘em!
Into the ring for Wendy Choo vs. Nikkita Lyons. Wendy Choo brought the Dorothy Gale Energy in a gingham singlet, while Lyons came out in a fabulous white (faux, we hope) fur coat over a Wonder Woman-esque costume with what appeared to be weasel carcasses on her shoulders. Spectacluar wrestling action ensued. We had high flying! We had slaps! We had Wendy Choo locking Nikkita in the Dirt Nap and getting her to tap out! Wendy Choo has overcome her selective mutism and has changed her makeup and seems to be in the process of ditching the “sleepy” part of her “sleepy psycho” persona, but she remains a force to be reckoned with in the ring!
We cut to Brooks Jensen justifying his attack against Tate Wilder by saying Tate Wilder has been too arrogant in thinking he deserves a slot at Succession. Jensen then announced that he’ll be facing Tate Wilder at Succession. That’ll teach him!
The Vanity Project then came out to see who’s going to face Jackson Drake for the championship at Succession. There was a table in the center of the ring. Drake put his Championship belt on it, which seemed like a waste of a table to us. Sean Legacy emerged to to announce that he was going to face Drake at Succession, but then Edris Enofe came out, pummeled Legacy, and slammed him into the LCDs at the entrance.
Drake preened for a bit, then introduced Zayda Steel, and Swipe Right, and then Bryce Donovan grabbed the mic, told Drake to shut up, announced he was going to contend for the championship at succession. He then threw Swipe Right and Zayda Steel from the ring and put Drake through the table in the center of the ring. Who saw that coming?
Will Donovan take the Men’s Championship? Will Grey take the Women’s Championship? Will we be able to tell Brooks Jensen and Tate Wilder apart? Find out at Succession on Wednesday, October 15!
